Lincoln

Last weekend, Michael and I saw Lincoln.

Whoever thought that a Irish/British actor could so expertly play an American hero, right down to his stooped shoulders?  Daniel Day-Lewis  is a genius.  I really felt like I was watching Lincoln.

The entire movie deals with Lincoln's struggle to pass the Emancipation Proclamation through congress.  What I most appreciated about the movie was learning that even "Honest Abe" did some underhanded things for the greater good.  It was a honest look into the man and the time period.

Can I say that it was not an attractive time in American history.  The hair styles were completely authentic.  No one was attractive.  Steven Spielberg captured the Civil War era perfectly!

Interesting tidbits about Lincoln:

*At 6'4" tall, Lincoln is still the tallest president.
*The Lincolns had four children.  Only one, Robert, reached adult age.
*Lincoln was a great story teller.  He used stories to illustrate his points.
*Lincoln had a dream of his death one week prior to his assassination.
*First president to have a beard.
*First president assassinated.

Daniel Day-Lewis was the obvious winner for the Golden Globes.  The Oscar will surely follow.

  1. Whitney and I saw it, too. I have always liked Lincoln. It was cool to see what he was like. I hope I get to meet him one day.
